The Black Country GOLD programme offers business development support and financial assistance to small and medium size enterprises based in:

- Dudley
- Sandwell
- Walsall
- Wolverhampton

The scheme is targeted at businesses in the sectors below:

- Advanced manufacturing
- Building technologies
- Business services
- Environmental technologies
- Transport technologies

Social enterprises can apply provided they fit into one of the above sectors. To qualify businesses must trade on a business on business basis; this means that retailers, health and social care businesses and service sector businesses such as hairdressers are not eligible.

Take advantage of the Pre Investment Advice programme providing part funded accountancy support to assist with financial documentation and applications. Available through the Black Country Growth Hub, the programme can be used in conjunction with Black Country Gold

Financial Assistance

BC GOLD offers eligible businesses the opportunity to apply for grants up to £16,000 to support expansion projects that will enable the business to grow by up to 20%.

The grant covers 50% of project costs with the balance being contributed by the business e.g. to receive a £5,000 grant the business has to contribute £5,000 towards the project.

The grants can be used for capital and revenue projects:

Capital Grant

The maximum capital grant available is £10,000; eligible capital costs include plant and machinery and premises refurbishment.

Revenue Grant

The maximum revenue is £16,000; eligible revenue costs include the commissioning of consultancy that will support business development. It is possible to combine capital and revenue grants up the maximum of £16,000, e.g. can apply for £5,000 capital grant and £11,000 revenue grant.

Business Development

The business development strand of Black Country GOLD includes:

  • 121 support to develop a Growth Plan for the business
  • Free access to business seminars delivered by leading consultants

The Application Process

The application has three parts:

Part A is completion of the Expression of Interest form which you can find by clicking on the link below. Following submission of the Expression of Interest you will be contacted by a member of the Business Solutions Team who will work with you to complete Part B.

Part B is The Business Growth Plan Analysis which is a document that is usually completed at a face to face meeting with one of our team, its aim is to identify the growth opportunities for the business, possible barriers and how these can be overcome by the business development project that BC GOLD support is sought for.

Part C is completion of the full application form for which you will require detailed project costings and will need to provide a description of the project benefits and how it will help the business develop.
